Nepali troops win hearts in Lebanon
07 Mar 2010

LEBANON/ Kamal Dev Bhattarai : Despite their peacekeeping efforts in the most troubled part of Lebanon, Nepali peacekeepers have always found ways to win the hearts of locals there.

The Nepali Army, deployed in the southern area of Lebanon as part of the United Nations peacekeeping operation, is launching different welfare programmes and helping local residents on agriculture.

A big chunk of their peacekeeping efforts involve gaining the trust and respect of the local people. “Besides our main task of maintaining peace and security, we are launching different programmes such as health assistance, helping locals on their agriculture work, construction of different infrastructure and running English and computer classes for local residents,” Lt Col Sudeep KC, commander of the Nepali force in Labanon told this daily.

“These humanitarian services are all in addition to the main task and is the way to win the hearts and minds of the local people,” KC said.THT
